Human Curiosity

Curiosity begins with why.*

Both creativity and innovation need to be preceded by human curiosity, but in the age of algorithmic discovery and generative creation, the case can be made that there has been both a qualitative decline and a quantitative decrease in human curiosity.

At the Institute of Human Curiosity, we will look to answer the following questions and more:

  • What is curiosity?
  • What makes a place more conducive to curiosity?
  • How can laws and business practices affect curiosity?
  • How is curiosity related to the unknown?
  • Can curiosity exist without the ability to fail?
  • How is artistic curiosity related to scientific curiosity, and how does it differ?
  • Is there any objective value to curiosity?

The Institute will look to be more than simply a research institution, operating in a bubble, disconnected from practioners of curiosity. We wish to become a location where experimentation and collaboration can be found; where we aim to understand the questions which have been asked since the dawn of time, and the myriad answers which have been proffered in every age and location since; and where the curious can flourish and thrive.

* In Latin, cur means why, so curiosity, quite literally, begins with "why".
